VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Thank you for your interest in Graton Fire! Whether you are interested in a fire career or serving your community, we are excited to have you join our department!
Any new commitment is always best when everyone understands the expectations. Here is an overview of what it means to be a Graton Firefighter.
We will provide all of the necessary training and protective equipment to be a firefighter. You will be responsible for buying your own wildland boots. A $200 payment is provided at the end of the training class to help offset the cost.
​Trainee Minimum Expectations
  • Complete a physical agility test 
  • Pass an interview
  • Complete a background check
  • Pass a worker’s compensation physical
    • Includes a drug test (does not include marijuana)
  • Complete training academy (roughly 6 months)
    • Attend training one night a week
    • Attend a few Saturday trainings
    • Complete a written test
    • Complete a skills test
  • Acknowledge the Policies and Procedures and Standard Operating Guidelines
​Firefighter Minimum Expectations
  • Respond to 10% of calls for service for firefighters living in the District
    • Make an extra effort to attend major calls (e.g., fires, major storms, floods, car crashes)
  • Complete 4 day or night shifts/month for firefighter living out of the District
  • Attend 75% of biweekly and quarterly drills
  • Acknowledge new/revised Policies and Procedures and Standard Operating Guidelines
